7 Life Lessons for Peace and Positive Thinking

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ (Then, which of the favors of your Lord will you deny)

When I was younger, I would read this Ayah (verse) on intricate calligraphy. I heard elders read it with vehemence but didn’t fully comprehend its essence.

Yet, as I gazed into the majestic mountain ranges of the Skardu valley, I was reminded of this Ayah. Thousands of feet above sea level, driving over steep roads, narrow dirt paths, or the edge of razor-sharp carved mountains; I was encompassed by the magnificence of Allah’s creation.

Skardu has something Lahore can never offer; lush green landscapes and snow-capped mountains everywhere you look; lakes stretching over a width beyond one’s gaze; spring water; and fresh produce. You just can’t get enough.

I got to witness the world miles away from home. We passed houses constructed on the foothills of the mountains. They presented a gorgeous view but an arduous climb for the residents. I did consider remote work from the mountains but didn’t go through with it. Someday, maybe.

Travel goals for the trip

Travel gives you a fresh perspective. In doing so, it reinforces lessons we often take for granted. Before starting my vacation, I decided to steer clear of writing. I am happy to report I scribbled away like a maniac. But I did jot down some helpful lessons, so I’d say I deserve a pat on the back.

My day-to-day life is dominated by work deadlines, networking, family, and goals. So, my second goal was to ease up and enjoy the moment. Boy, did I deliver on this one! Rafting in River Kunhar, soaking under Mantokha waterfall and trek down Upper Kachura lake are a few of my adventurous escapades.

So, overall a win-win.

Travel brings peace to your reality

Travel may give you a break from reality; it also helps overcome hurdles in your path to peace. It is amazing how you manage to see things clearly when you hit pause. Though unconsciously, I managed to clear my head, tune out the noise and decide what was really important.

Every day we got up early to drive up to a tourist spot. I spent the commuting time capturing the beauty around and reflecting.

I was reminded of how we cannot have it all — stressing over what is not in our control is neither helpful nor healthy. Problems and misfortunes will forever string along in differing magnitude. We all have our battles. How you approach them matters. At the same time, we are also blessed differently. That is the beauty of life. It is relative. No one has it better or worse.

I usually share motivational, thought-provoking content on my Instagram. Thought I’d share one here as well. My journey helped me recall seven essential life lessons:

  1. Travel to unwind, start fresh or start over.
  2. Best way to manage your life’s chaos is to seek out possible solutions and implement them.
  3. Own your decisions.
  4. Hustle culture will never buy you happiness, give yourself a break.
  5. Live your life with kindness and watch it come back in marvelous ways.
  6. Pray and practice gratitude as it encourages positive thinking.
  7. Take out some time to self-reflect. It is a great way to count your blessings and restore faith in Lord’s bounty.

Hope this helps.

Do let me know if you would like a dash of positivity!
